Board Meeting Highlights – February 12, 2019, Board Meeting

Superintendent Hogeboom recognized San Marin High School student Xitlali Tejeda winning the Bob Smart Spirit of Lenaea Award and Gold for her ‘Dream Act’ Monologue.

Two San Marin High School STEM students presented the progress of The Pegasus Project that started in 2016 to the Board tonight. What is The Pegasus Project? The students are building a plane! More information can be found at https://stemmarinplane.weebly.com/

Superintendent Hogeboom gave the Board a Mid-Year Update on the 2018-2019 Goals.  For more information, please see Item 13.a.

Superintendent Hogeboom also gave the Board a report from the Elementary School Size Committee.  Their Recommendation: “The positive impacts on the instructional program and school culture outweigh the negative impacts on facility capacity and operational efficiency. Therefore, the committee DOES NOT recommend closing an elementary school at this time.”  The Committee also made additional revenue generating recommendations for the district to explore.  Please see Item 13.b. for more information.

Assistant Superintendent Amie Carter, Director of Special Education Kelly Johnson, and Prevention Coordinator Evie Zuroske provided an update on protocols and practices related to Mental Health and Suicide Prevention efforts within the district.  Please see Item 13.c. for more information.

The Board adopted a Board Resolution to recognize African American History Month.  (The Board voted to add this item to the Agenda at the beginning of the meeting.)

Supt. Hogeboom introduced Brian Epperson, Target River, who presented a marketing campaign proposal to encourage new student enrollment and highlight/educate the community on NUSD’s programs.  Marketing NUSD was one of the recommendations from the Elementary School Size Committee.  The Board approved the proposal.  Please see Item 14.a.  for more information.

The Board approved the Tentative Agreement with NFT to settle negotiations for 2018-2019 as presented by Deputy Superintendent Kris Cosca. Please see Item 14.b.  for more information.

The Board approved AB1200 public disclosure of the collective bargaining agreement for NFT pursuant to Government Code Section 3547.5 as presented by Assistant Superintendent Yancy Hawkins. Please see Item 14.c. for more information.

The Board approved the Comprehensive School Safety Plan as presented by Director of Communications Leslie Benjamin.  Please see Item 14.d. for more information.

The Board approved Board Policy 6141.1 High School Graduation Requirements as presented by Assistant Superintendent Amie Carter.  This was the second and final reading. Please see Item 14.e. for more information.

The Board approved the Department of Justice Prop 56 3-Year Tobacco Grant in the amount of $589,516 as presented by Assistant Superintendent Amie Carter.  This was the second and final reading. Please see Item 14.f. for more information.
