Novato High JROTC Cadets led the Board in the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Novato High AVID program and Rancho partnered to bring NHS AVID students to work and play with Rancho students once a week.  The students shared with the Board how much they enjoy and learn from their time together!

Superintendent Hogeboom recognized Lucy London, Novato High School student, for being selected as one of the student Volunteers of the Year at the Heart of Marin event earlier in January.

Yancy Hawkins, Assistant Superintendent Business & Operations, presented information on the 2019-2020 Governor’s Proposed Budget. On January 10, 2019 Governor Newsom unveiled his proposed State Budget for 2019-2020. The Budget included three main proposals that impact local school districts. For more information, please see Item 14.a.

Mr. Hawkins also provided the Board with a 2019-2020 Budget Balancing Process Update.  The District is currently running a structural deficit. This budget deficit is primarily caused by two factors:

  1. Declining District enrollment caused by lower birth rates in Marin County
  2. Rising pension (PERS/STRS) costs

A community survey and video will be available on February 1 and a Community Budget Question and Answer Evening will be held on Tuesday, February 5, at 5:30 pm at the District Office.  Please see Item 14.b. for more information and schedule.

Mike Woolard, Executive Director of Facilities, presented to the Board for approval the schematic design, schedule and cost estimate for the air-conditioning installation projects at Loma Verde ES, Lynwood ES and Olive ES. The Board approved the item. Please see Item 15.a. for more information.

Mike Woolard presented to the Board for approval the CEQA Draft Initial Study/Mitigated Negative Declaration for the proposed STEM Building and Performing Arts Center projects at San Marin HS. The Board approved the item.  Please see Item 15.b. for more information.
