Board Meeting Highlights – March 5, 2019, Board Meeting

Thank you Hamilton students for reading your poems!  Principal Stefanie Parnell and Teacher Tanya Madsen were at the Board meeting with 4 students who read their poems that were part of Hamilton’s Poetry Slam.

Non-Agenda Public Comment: A community member had questions about student Internet security and another group of community members advocated the need for wellness centers at the high schools and overall student wellness.

Tim Rocco, Information Technology Director, provided the Board an update on technology infrastructure planning and expenditures associated with E-rate, the California Teleconnect Fund, and the Measure G Bond project. For more information, please see Item 13.a.

Jen Larson, Director of Student Success, and Amie Carter, Assistant Superintendent Education Services, updated the Board about the College and Career Readiness Indicators and how NUSD is preparing students for success after graduation. Please see Item 13.b. for more information.

Amie Carter presented plans for a Teacher Leadership Team. Using the Low-Performing Students Block Grant funds, NUSD is establishing a Teacher Leadership Team to drive system change in a more impactful, collaborative manner.  For more information, please see Item 13.c.

Yancy Hawkins, Assistant Superintendent Business & Operations, presented an update of the 2019-2020 Budget Balancing Process. A Special Board Meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, to review the budget balancing recommendations.  For more information, please see Item 13.d.

Colonel Patrick Clark and Sargent Richard Muench with the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp at Novato High School presented the Memorandum of Agreement with the U.S. Air Force for approval.  Susan Miller, President of the Building Better Citizens for America, an organization supporting the AFJROTC program at Novato High School, presented for approval the revised annual Memorandum of Understanding with Building Better Citizens for America. The Board approved both documents.  For more information, please see Item 14.a.

Yancy Hawkins presented the schematic design, schedule and cost estimate for the IT infrastructure upgrade project at Novato High School and San Marin High School for approval. The Board approved the item. For more information, please see Item 14.b.
