Student Presentation:  Students from San Jose Middle School shared their Culture of Caring activities and programs

Non-Agenda Public Comment:  Several community members commented on teacher compensation and class size.  It was a full house!

HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

PUBLIC HEARING #5 AND ADOPTION OF TRUSTEE AREA MAP 7A:  Trustees approved Area Map 7A and Sequencing Document #3. Trustee Area Map Scenario 7A and associated resolutions can be found under Items 13.a-e.

PARCEL TAX MEASURE FIRST READING: Kris Cosca and Charles Heath, TBWB, presented a resolution to call for a parcel tax election on March 3, 2020, as a first reading. The proposed resolution would renew the current parcel tax and increase it by $125.  This increase would generate an additional $2 million more per year, raising $6 million annually for the district.  It goes back to the Board on December 3 for final consideration and approval. More information can be found under Item 14.a.

PROMOTING & MARKETING NUSD:  The Board approved a contract with Target River to provide digital target marketing with the goal of attracting new students and highlighting NUSD programs.   More information can be found under Item 14.b.

UNITED AGAINST HATE WEEK RESOLUTION: The Board adopted a resolution declaring November 17-22, 2019, United Against Hate Week, a campaign designed to bring communities together to learn from each other, surface local concerns and seek solutions.  On November 18, 2019, a “Community Conversation” will take place at the City of Novato Council Chambers.  This event will feature a short film from Not In Our Town and a panel of speakers.  This item can be found under Item 14.c.

MEASURE G BOND – DEFERRED MAINTENANCE NEEDS & STRATEGIES:  This was a follow-up report that focused solely on Measure G Bond Deferred Maintenance (DM), specifically the DM needs for a 10-year span between 2020 and 2030.  This detailed data will help inform and provide additional data to enable the Board to determine the correct DM amount at a future Board meeting.  This item can be found under Item 15.a.
