and NHS’s Marin School of the Arts received the Synergy Award

It was a remarkable weekend at the Lenaea Theatre Festival for both the Drama Program at San Marin High School and the Theatre Program at Marin School of the Arts (MSA) at Novato High School. Both schools pulled off big wins at the event held at Folsom Lake College on February 2 and 3.

San Marin student Xitlali Tejeda took home the Bob Smart Spirit of Lenaea Award which is awarded to only one student participating in the festival. Marin School of the Arts cast and crew won the coveted Synergy Award given for the production showing kindness and professionalism and working best together.

Other San Marin wins include a Gold Award for Xiltlali Tejeda’s Dream Act Monologue, a Silver Award for Gordy Brodeur and Demetrius Rauck for their The Blackest Shore Duo Scene, and a Bronze Award for Liza Schoen and Lauren Hartley for their The Taming Duo Scene.

MSA students also won multiple awards at the Festival. The Novato High School-based arts program earned Gold for the One-Act-Play Richard III, Silver for Musical Theatre for Kasey Hernandez, ‘Changing My Major’ from Fun Home, Bronze for Nicole Geller and Sabine Orthwein for their Parallel Lives Duo Scene, Outstanding Performance in a One-Act play for both Rennie Boyd and Holly Hogan in Richard III, and Respondent’s Choice for Grace Steckler in The Flick Monologue.

The annual high school festival is designed to advance high school theatre art students’ education by providing opportunities to strengthen, promote and share artistic skills within an interactive and supportive educational environment. Over 65 high schools from across Northern California participate, representing thousands of performing arts students in theatre, musical theatre, and dance.
