Dear NUSD Community:

These are very trying times in education.  The bottom line is that schools are just not being given the financial resources we need to do our job, which comes at a time when even more is being asked of our schools, teachers and staff.  The State of California for the past few years, including this year, has pretty much only provided flat funding for schools, while our pension costs are climbing by $1 million each year and we lose another $1 million due to declining enrollment.  As a result, many districts, including Novato, are caught in the budget squeeze and having to make continued budget cuts each year.   Below is a link to a Marin Voice article I wrote for the Marin Independent Journal which further explains our situation. 5.1.19 Jim Hogeboom Marin Voice
