Dear Novato Community Member,

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, I reflect on all I am thankful for. I am so thankful to be the Superintendent in this amazing community that supports its students, families and staff.  Novato and Novato Unified are such welcoming and supportive communities.

I am proud of the buy in we are seeing around building cultures of caring, competence, and excellence in our schools; the progress we see in multiple areas including reducing chronic absenteeism, increasing the number of students on track to graduate, growth in the number of students on target to meet college entry requirements; and in the midst of construction projects that will impact all of our students. While we have had some challenges, I am proud that we are doing to do the right things for our kids.

I encourage you to use some of your Thanksgiving Break to reflect on all you are thankful for. I hope you will also think about those who are struggling with something and what you might be able to do to help. I find that, when I truly focus on what I am thankful for or what I can do to help, I realize that there is far more going well than there are struggles and that we can make a difference, together.

At the end of my day, I go home to a warm house and people who love me. My family and I are, for the most part, healthy and active. I know there will be something in my stomach when I put my head on my pillow. I know I am lucky and acknowledge that many in our society do not have all of these things.

I think of those not as lucky or privileged as I have been. I also think about the families of our students impacted by recent tragedies. Each of these families will be in my thoughts. I encourage you to have them in yours as well.

Thank you for all you do to make our community a better place.

Sincerely,

Kris Cosca
