Novato Unified Names New Assistant Superintendent of Education Services

Novato, CA… The Novato Unified School District (NUSD) is pleased to announce the appointment of Amie Carter as the new Assistant Superintendent, Education Services.  Dr. Carter replaces Ivan Chaidez who has accepted a position in the Oak Grove School District.

Dr. Carter received her Doctorate in Education from the University of Southern California, MA in English and Educational Leadership at California State University Stanislaus, and her BA from Northern Arizona University. Dr. Carter is a highly organized self-starter with the vision and experience to lead Novato Unified’s complex systems. She comes to NUSD from Rancho Cotate High School and has been honored for their work in closing the opportunity gap. Amie’s experience includes being a classroom teacher at the high school and collegiate level, high school assistant principal, elementary principal, K-8 principal, and high school principal. She is a smart, approachable, and ethical leader who is enthusiastic about achieving student success by collaborating with others to move systems forward. Amie is able to continually emphasize the importance of monitoring progress and reflecting on outcomes to find new ways to improve. Dr. Carter will bring all of those great experiences to Novato Unified.

Amie moved to the North Bay in 2012 when her wife took an executive position at BioMarin, bringing her family from the Central Valley. Amie loves being surrounded by children, and she is the proud mother of five accomplished daughters.  Last year she added a granddaughter to her family tree, and is so happy to have the opportunity to read bedtime stories to a toddler again.

“We’re excited for Dr. Carter to join NUSD.  Amie’s experience in closing the achievement gap and her K-12 experience will be invaluable as we continue to implement strategies to address NUSD’s achievement gap,” comments Jim Hogeboom, NUSD Superintendent. Dr. Carter’s contract begins on July 1, 2018.
