“To Experience Life in Someone Else’s Shoes”

If you could only take a few of your life’s belongings when forced to walk thousands of miles to a new country, what would you bring?

This question was one of the first things author Alexandra Diaz asked Pleasant Valley’s fifth graders when visiting their school to talk about her new book, The Only Road.  The Santa Fe author is visiting NUSD elementary schools this week sharing her modern-day immigration novel which focuses on immigrants in the world today.  The book is available in English and Spanish,

On September 5, Ms. Diaz will visit Lu Sutton, Lynwood, and Hamilton Schools and on Thursday, September 6, she will visit Rancho and Loma Verde Schools.  She visited Olive, San Ramon and Pleasant Valley on Tuesday, September 4.  The ALA Rainbow List and New Mexico Book Award finalist released a sequel, The Crossroads, on September 4.

Ms. Diaz is the daughter of Cuban refugees and is a native Spanish speaker currently living in Santa Fe, New Mexico.  She earned her MA in Writing for Young People from Bath Spa University.  More information can be found at www.alexandra-diaz.com.
