Novato Unified School District Board Appoints New Staff

(Novato, CA) … The Novato Unified School District (NUSD) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Bryan Clement as the Principal for Hamilton TK-8 School and Tanya Pearson as the English Learner Program Coordinator, both effective July 1, 2024. The NUSD Board of Trustees approved the appointments at its April 2, 2024, board meeting.

Mr. Clement has been serving as the Assistant Principal at Hamilton TK-8 School since August 2023. Before joining NUSD, Bryan worked as an education consultant, collaborating with educators and medical professionals to enhance their practices in social-emotional learning, resiliency, and trauma-informed approaches. Prior to his role as an education consultant, Bryan held positions as a Principal at Saint Hilary School and as the Director of Advancement at Marin Catholic High School. He earned his B.A. in Human Development from UC San Diego and his Masters in Education from UC Santa Cruz.  Mr. Clement will assume the position previously occupied by Stefanie Coe, who resigned effective June 30, 2024.

Bryan’s expertise in trauma-informed practices enables him to understand the unique needs of each student. He is known for his ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, and parents which cultivates a collaborative environment. Bryan’s approach to education is inspiring, and his dedication is transforming Hamilton’s school culture into an environment where students feel heard, respected, and valued.

“We are delighted that Bryan will be stepping into the role of principal next year at Hamilton TK-8 School,” remarked NUSD Superintendent Dr. Tracy Smith. “This past year he has shown his ability to make connections with students, staff and families and is ready to lead the school.”

The Board of Trustees also approved Ms. Tanya Pearson as the English Learner Program Coordinator beginning July 1, 2024.  Ms. Pearson comes to NUSD from Cesar Chavez Language Academy where she is serving as Assistant Principal.  Tanya has also served as Principal at St. Helena Elementary School and Assistant Principal at Del Mar Middle School.   She earned her B.A from UCLA and Masters in Education from UC Berkeley and Masters in Educational Administration from SF State University.  Ms. Pearson replaces Karrie Coulter who resigned earlier this year.

Tanya is a strong educational leader and has been part of the California Principals’ Support Network developing teacher leaders to improve school culture, enhance teacher practice, and create supports for student learning. She is also recognized for her skill in forming communities by investing time in getting to know people and ensuring that the voices of students, parents, and staff are heard. Her varied experiences and language abilities allow her to deeply connect with families in meaningful ways.

“We are thrilled to welcome Tanya to NUSD and have her take on this significant role,” stated NUSD Superintendent Dr. Tracy Smith. “Tanya’s background and experience will enrich our English Learner program immensely.”
