COLLEGE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS; CAREER TECHNICAL EDUCATION
(EC §§ 51229, 48980):
College Admission Requirements: The University of California (UC) and the California State University (CSU) have established common high school course requirements for undergraduate admission. Students who take these courses and meet other specified criteria are eligible to apply and be considered for admission. The following list is commonly referred to as the “A-G” requirements:
(a) two years of history/social science (one year of World History and one year of United States History;
(b) four years of college preparatory English;
(c) three years of college preparatory mathematics (four years recommended), must include Algebra 1, Algebra 2 and Geometry;
(d) two years of laboratory science in two of three foundational subjects (biology, chemistry or physics);
(e) two years of the same language other than English three years recommended);
(f) one year long course of the same of visual and performing arts chosen from dance, drama/theatre, music or visual art; and
(g) one year of college preparatory electives in addition to a-f above.

Career Technical Education: The California Department of Education defines “career technical education” as a program of study that involves a multiyear sequence of courses that integrates core academic knowledge with technical and occupational knowledge to provide students with a pathway to postsecondary education and careers. Career technical education includes 15 different industry sectors.
The Novato Unified School District allows a career technical education course to satisfy the visual/performing arts or foreign language graduation requirements.
