Transportation Authority of Marin (TAM) and Novato Unified School District (NUSD) Announce 2019-2020 Crossing Guard Locations
In 2018, Marin County voters approved a renewal of a local ½ cent sales tax increase, Measure AA. Measure AA proceeds fund a variety of local transportation programs and projects, including crossing guards for Marin County schools. TAM administers Measure AA funds and provides crossing guard services for NUSD.
Every five years, TAM contracts with an outside agency to perform a detailed traffic/pedestrian assessment of the Marin County crossing guard locations currently tracked by TAM. This evaluation determines the ranking level for each location.
In 2019-2020 TAM funds the first ninety-seven (97) crossing guard locations throughout Marin County from their traffic/pedestrian assessment, of which twenty-one (21) reside in Novato. NUSD expands this by funding an additional four (4) crossing guards at the next four locations on the list for a total of twenty-five (25) locations.
