NUSD Extends Transitional Kindergarten Program for 2022-2023 School Year
(Novato, CA)… The Novato Unified School District (NUSD) announced that it is extending the eligibility age range for children in the Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program beginning in the 2022-2023 school year. Children whose fifth birthday falls between September 2, 2022, and February 1, 2023, are eligible for TK.
Earlier this year, the California legislature passed a $2.7 billion education funding bill that includes a universal transitional kindergarten program for all 4-year-olds. The TK program is expected to be rolled out beginning in the 2022-2023 school year, expanding annually until it is available to all the 4-year-olds by 2025-2026.
Below is NUSD’s proposed timeline to rollout the Transitional Kindergarten program by school year and the birth dates of eligibility:
2022-2023: Turn 5 between September 2, 2022, and February 2, 2023
2023-2024: Turn 5 between September 2, 2023, and April 2, 2024
2024-2025: Turn 5 between September 2, 2024, and June 2, 2025
2025-2026: Turn 5 between September 2, 2025, and September 1, 2026
Parents of incoming TK/Kindergartners for the 2022-23 school year are invited to attend an Information Night on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, at 6:30 pm. The event will take place in the Board Room at the NUSD District Office, 1015 7th Street, Novato. Space is limited. The Information Night will also be livestreamed on NCTV’s YouTube Channel and will be recorded and posted on the NUSD website.
New student registration for the 2022-2023 school year is now open and can be accessed on the NUSD website at https://nusd.org/enroll/. Bilingual registration support will be available 5:30 – 8:00 pm at the District Office during TK/Kindergarten Information Night on November 17, 2021. To help the registration process, please bring the required paperwork.
Students enrolling in Kindergarten for the 2022-23 school year are required to have their fifth birthday on or before September 1, 2022. Students enrolling in Transitional Kindergarten for the 2022-23 school year are required to have their fifth birthday between September 2, 2022, and February 1, 2023.
