Measure G Project Updates

This summer, many of our school sites will be busy with Measure G construction projects. All of these projects will begin construction immediately upon the last day of school in order to complete the majority of the work during the short summer construction season (some projects have already started.) In addition, a few projects will not be complete until sometime in the Fall due to the project length, but most projects will be complete by mid-August before school begins. All classrooms will be up and running in time for the new school year.

Hamilton TK-8 School
This summer, the upper campus middle school classrooms will receive new furniture. Last summer the K-5th grade classrooms received their new flexible classroom furniture. The middle school classrooms including the music and special education classrooms will be closed.

Lu Sutton Elementary School
Lu Sutton is receiving the air-conditioning /HVAC system this summer. This campus will be closed for the summer and the administrative staff will be temporarily relocated.

Olive Elementary School
The high bay clerestory windows in all the classrooms are being replaced and the main parking lot on Olive Avenue adjacent to the new Administration Building is being replaced. The school garden, which needed to be demolished to make way for the new Administration building, is currently under construction and should be completed before the end of summer. This campus is closed for the summer and limited administrative staff will remain on site in the Main Office with access to the building from Olive Avenue if necessary.

San Jose Middle School
If you’ve driven by San Jose in the last couple of weeks, you may have noticed all the earth movers hard at work. A new synthetic turf field and new track; upgraded snack bar/kitchen facilities; a new campus-wide fire alarm system; and a new exterior painting project will be taking place on campus. In addition, the classrooms at San Jose will be receiving new furniture. The entire campus is closed for the summer with the exception of the baseball field and the administrative staff will be temporarily relocated.

Sinaloa Middle School
Sinaloa is also receiving a new synthetic turf field with a rubberized track surface on the field adjacent to Wilson Avenue. All classrooms will be receiving the new flexible furniture package. The administrative staff will remain on site in their offices. The gymnasium and baseball field will be open over the summer but the rest of the campus is closed. The IT Team from the Hill Education Center will be working out of the Sinaloa library due to the construction at the Hill Education Center.

Novato High School
It will be a very busy summer on the NHS campus, beginning as soon as school ends on June 9. All classrooms on campus that don’t currently have air conditioning will be receiving the new air conditioning/HVAC system. New classroom furniture will be going into every classroom on campus except for the Center for the Sciences and Center for the Arts, which already received new classroom furniture. The Verkada security camera system will be installed across campus. Although not a Measure G project, Maintenance and Operations is leading the project to replaster the swimming pool. All fields, the locker rooms and the two gyms will be open, as well as the Center for the Arts. All other areas on campus are closed and the administrative staff will be relocated to the campus library for the summer.

San Marin High School
New classroom furniture will be going into every classroom on campus except for in the STEM Center and the Performing Arts Center. The STEM and PAC received new classroom furniture as a part of the construction of these two new buildings. San Marin is also expected to have the new Verkada security camera system installed across campus. Except for the classrooms receiving new furniture, all other locations on site will be open, including the administration offices.

Hill Education Center
The Hill Education Center will receive the new air conditioning/HVAC system throughout the campus, a new roof on most of the buildings and the IT Infrastructure Upgrade in all the classrooms. Marin Oaks and NOVA classrooms will be receiving new classroom furniture, and the classroom technology package will be installed by early Fall. The entire campus will be closed for the summer and the administrative staff will be temporarily relocated.

Maintenance and Operations Facility on C Street
This facility is a part of the Phase 1 installation of the Verkada Security Camera system along with Novato and San Marin High Schools.

819 Olive Avenue (FANS and TRANSPORTATION Facility)
This facility will receive the IT Infrastructure upgrade over the summer.

District Office on 7th Street
The District Office will receive the IT Infrastructure Fiber Cabling upgrade that has been installed at all sites the last four years. Beginning on June 10, this project brings new fiber/copper cabling throughout the building in order to increase capacity and improve wireless technology. The majority of the work will be done on swing shift in the evenings in order to minimize disruption during the workday. The current ethernet infrastructure will be kept live with the new system being installed adjacent; the switch-over to the new system will happen toward the end of the summer.

We appreciate the support from the Novato community for passing the Measure G bond in 2016 which has provided wonderful upgrades and new facilities across our school district.
