NUSD Board Approves New School Schedules to Begin April 12, 2021

(Novato, CA) … On March 16, 2021, the Novato Unified Board of Trustees voted to begin the revised school schedules on April 12, 2021 for Flexible In-Person students.  Grades TK-8 will attend school on campus five days per week and grades 9-12 students will be on campus four days per week. Starting on April 12 gives teachers and staff adequate time to prepare for additional students, recognizes that many teachers and staff will receive their second vaccine dose around March 27, and allows time for the district to reconfigure classrooms.

On March 13, 2021, the Novato Unified School District (NUSD) and the Novato Federation of Teachers (NFT) reached an agreement to amend the re-entry (hybrid learning) Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to greatly reduce remote learning for elementary and middle school students and return Flexible In-Person (FIP) students to campus five days per week.

The agreement reached on March 13, 2021 can be found here.

  • Elementary school FIP students in grades TK and Kindergarten will attend school Monday through Friday, 8:40 am to 12:00 pm. Students in grades 1-5 will attend school 8:40 am to 1:00 pm.
  • Middle school FIP students will attend school Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 8:20 am to 1:00 pm. On Wednesday, students will be released at 12:05 pm.
  • Novato and San Marin High Schools FIP students will attend morning sessions four days a week, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9:00 am to 12:20 pm.

“Nothing is more important than returning our students to campus as safely as possible.  I want to thank NFT for their collaboration in this timely negotiation process for amending the MOU.  NUSD has heard from many families how important it is for their children to have more in-person time in school.  Now that all of our teachers have been offered a Covid vaccine and Marin County has reached the red tier, it was the appropriate time to revisit our schedules,” commented Superintendent Kris Cosca.
