On March 1, 2016, the Board of Trustees approved the Power Purchase Agreement with SolarCity Corporation to install solar shade structures or solar carports at 10 schools at almost no cost to NUSD (schedule of installation is below.)

In total, this district-wide solar project is estimated to save in excess of $7 million over 25 years. This is a considerable savings of public dollars that can be used for educating students.

The District began exploring solar projects at school sites last fall.  At the December 8, 2015 Board meeting, staff provided an update regarding the procurement process for installing solar systems at District school sites utilizing parking structures, ground mounts and shade structures.

Community meetings to review the proposed solar projects at the schools were held at both San Marin High School and Novato High School.

The process included a Request for Proposal (RFP) being issued with proposals due January 26, 2016. At the February 2, 2016 Board meeting, SolarCity Corporation was selected as the firm to provide solar systems at District school sites, and staff was authorized to negotiate a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

Solar Construction Projects Are Underway At NUSD!

NUSD Solar Schedule

The below dates represent the contractor’s (Solar City) targeted times that they will be at the site constructing the solar array carports and shade structures ONLY.

During the entire time from August to Late October it is anticipated that inter-connective work will happen at your site’s main electrical switchgear panel and a little bit at the structures where they may have only a couple parking spots fenced off or in the case of the elementary’s have a small area of the shade structure fenced off.  This work would be quiet and non-disruptive exclusive of advanced scheduled shut downs that will be coordinated with each site.

AGAIN, the schedule below is for the construction of the solar array carports and shade structures only, there will still be more non-disruptive electrical work (underground boring and interconnection work that does not interfere with the parking) into the fall.
