Reporting Absences

Full-time certificated employees receive a total bank of ten days for sick leave per year. Seven of those days may be used for personal necessity annually. Unused sick days are carried over annually. Unused personal necessity days are not. Part-time certificated employees receive fewer days based on their employment status.

  • 12:3.2 A unit member may use seven (7) days of personal necessity leave except when such days are requested immediately before or after recesses or holidays, on designated staff development days, or during the first five (5) days and/or last five (5) days of the work year. Personal necessity days may not be used for recreation or vacation purposes. The exception to all the above is emergency situations with reason given.

Job Sharing

Certificated employees who wish to share a 1.0 FTE position need to receive prior approval from their site administrator annually before submitting the Job Share Teaching Assignment Application, Work Calendars, and Proposal to Human Resources by February 1st.

Job share position contracts are approved on an annual basis for one school year only.

Prior Approval of Unit Credit

NUSD encourages its employees to further their education by taking courses related to their field. Certificated employees need to receive prior approval from their site administrators before taking coursework. Approved forms and official transcripts are due annually on October 1st. Please note that NUSD tracks coursework in semester units. Courses on the quarter system are calculated at 67% of a semester unit.

Ten (10) clock hours = 1 Quarter Unit = 1 Continuing Ed ucation Unit =  2/3 semester unit or .67 semester units.

Tuberculin Test Information

State Law requires that all school district employees have a negative Tuberculin Test (TB) or Risk Assessment on file. All test results should be turned in to Jennifer Albini, HR Technician.

New Teacher Residency Program

Novato Unified School District is partnering with Sonoma State University to create an educator pathway for individuals interested in being elementary teachers in both English-instruction and dual-immersion classrooms.

Candidates will have an opportunity to participate in an intensive teacher preparation program at either Lynwood Dual Language Immersion School or Lu Sutton Elementary School.

Interested candidates must have a bachelor’s degree or be in receipt of one in the Spring 2024
