We are excited to launch Intro to BCT-A (Construction, Carpentry, Roofing, and Painting), a free hands-on ROP afterschool semester course at Novato High School! This program, open to all NUSD high school students explores high-demand careers in the trades. Spots are limited for the upcoming semester, so be sure to submit your application ASAP!
BUILDING & CONSTRUCTION TRADES
Course Title: Intro to BCT-A (Construction, Carpentry, Roofing, and Painting)
Dates/Class Schedule: August 26 - December 9, Wednesdays from 2:00-6:00 p.m.
Location: Marin CTE Center, Novato High School, 625 Arthur St, Novato, CA 94947
Description: The course will focus on Construction, Carpentry, Roofing, and Painting. Students will learn basic skills and engage in hands-on projects while exploring postsecondary education and career paths in each trade. Students who successfully complete the hands-on course will receive high school CTE elective credit. No experience necessary.

Course Title: Car Appreciation and Preservation Program
Dates/Class Schedule: September 8 - December 8, Tuesdays from 2:00-5:00 p.m. and two Saturdays, dates TBD, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Location: Marin CTE Center, Novato High School, 625 Arthur St, Novato, CA 94947
Description: Students obtain basic automotive repair skills such as engine mechanics, cooling systems, brakes, body repair, painting, and upholstery. They explore how the automobile has impacted American culture and society. They learn about the classic car industry, including car shows, exhibitions, and rally and race driving. They will be able to identify career paths related to the appreciation and preservation of automobiles. Students who successfully complete the hands-on course will receive high school CTE elective credit. No experience necessary.

STUDENT INTERNSHIPS
The School to Career Program is a Marin County Office of Education (MCOE) countywide program that partners with local school districts to help students connect classroom learning with real-world career experiences. The NUSD School to Career Liaison serves students at Novato High School, San Marin High School, NOVA Independent Study, and Marin Oaks High School, rotating between campuses and being on site at each school at least once a week.
Students can meet with the liaison to explore career interests and connect with hands-on learning opportunities, including internships, job shadows, workplace field trips, and other career exploration experiences. Internship opportunities are available during the fall, spring, and summer, and eligible students can earn high school elective credit for completing internship hours. Through these experiences, students develop valuable workplace and professional skills, explore careers they are interested in (or curious about), build confidence, and expand their professional network while preparing for life after high school.
